General Information
General information Housing: Our pheasant pens are constructed out of 6'x12'x6' chain-link dog runns with the bottom 3' of the runs surrounded by sheet metal for protection. Plywood triangles are added to each of the pens for shelter from the weather. The pens are also fitted with bamboo and small native tree from our area to help protect from the sun and for a fast retreat. All pens should have a number of tree limbs or branches for the birds to perch and use for a little work-out. Feeding: We feed our birds an equal amount mixture of standard chicken scratch, 18% poultry layer, sunflower seeds, and rabbit pellets with an additional 1/2 cup of scratch in the winter for the addtional fat content. Fruit and veggies are also part of the birds diet. When in season we use lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, apples and grapes in the feedings. They love that. Worming and Medications: With the help of RC HORSES AND PHEASANTRY we have learned that Ivomec is a great de-wormer to use. We use it twice a year. At the begianing of February before the breeding season and late July after the breeding season. Tylosin is used for any infection or sick bird. The bird is first removed and placed in a sick bay and given a 1/4cc. of Tylosin for the next three days once a day. It usally does the job. We also dust our birds for lice, fleas, and mites once a year. We like to use 7 dust. All three mentioned above can be found at your local feed store or at your local Vet. office. We here at Villagrana Aviary hope we have helped you with the information we have provided for you. Thank you, Villagrana Aviary
